​​​The Friends of Schunnemunk Mountain State Park, New York

(845-496-8043), is a non-profit non-membership organization.  It assists the Palisades Interstate Park Commission to preserve and protect Schunnemunk Mountain and its surrounding area.

Established in 2003, SCHUNNEMUNK MOUNTAIN STATE PARK , NY,

is managed by the​Sterling Forest Park office (845-351-5907) of the ​​Palisades Interstate ParkCommission (PIPC).   Donations may be made through the Palisades Parks Conservancy (PPC).


It consists of more than 3,300 acres, mostly on northern and eastern Schunnemunk Mountain, the area of "Maringamus' Castle."   There are eight marked trails of over 25 miles, maintained by New York-NewJersey Trail Conference volunteers.


The longest and tallest railroad trestle east of the Mississippi, the Moodna Viaduct leads into Schunnemunk Mountain.  Over eight miles long, the 7,000-acre mountain extends from Cornwall (northeast) through Woodbury (east) and Blooming Grove (west) to Monroe (south).  The highest elevation of this, the highest mountain in Orange County, is 1,664 feet.  Devonian in origin, its topmost layer consists of an unusual conglomerate.
